YouTech Conference – Innovation, Careers and Start-ups
The event was a huge success with over 80 people attending and 10+ businesses and speakers. The day was filled with technology demonstrations, companies, talks and workshops. Both start-ups and established corporate businesses turned up to share their skills, knowledge and expertise with students.
It was held on the ground floor of the Murray Building (58), Highfield Campus at The University of Southampton. Breakfast and lunch was provided as well as refreshments throughout the day.
Overview of Day – 9.45am – 4.30pm
Registration and breakfast. Keynote speakers from Loot and Chew TV. Workshops involving a tips on pitching and women in business. Google’s Digital Garage Talk. Lunch including showcase of Samsung’s technology and SkyFlys drones. More workshops involving linked in and Territory’s pitching competition. Finishing keynote speakers from Chime, IBM and Hoodoo Pro.
Google’s Digital Garage:
Digital Garage from google attended our event giving a talk on their latest technology and web-apps. They demonstrated how google can be an amazing tool to help you with your start-up and really researching your market. Not only this but Digital Garage itself offers free online training on many digital skills on their website.
Chantal studied at Stanford and Berkeley and since then has gone on to work at eBay and Microsoft, and Spiraledge as a product manager. She started 5 companies in the areas of FinTech, Fitness, and drones.
Her most recent company Hoodoo is an exclusive program that aims to help tech start-ups reach product success with the help of Silicon Valley experts. She shared her experience at out event and you can find out more at http://hoodoopro.com/
In his current role he provides Project Management, Change Management, Talent Acquisition, Social Recruiting and Branding expertise to corporate customers throughout the UK using LinkedIn.
Danny gave a talk on LinkedIn’s new features and the advantages you can gain by using it to build up your network. Tips on how to make your profile more appealing, the best way to connect and using their page monitoring stats to give you the advanatage were all delivered through our workshop and 1 to 1 sessions.
Robin McClure – IBM Innovation Center
Had questions about working in Tech? Or about how to start a technology company yourself within IBM? Want to land a job in a corporate business?
Robin McClure from IBM’s Innovation Center had the answers to these and many more in the talk her gave. With over 18 years of experience he had a wealth of knowledge to share and many opportunities to talk about.
Lu Li – Co-founder of Blooming Founders:
If you are solo female founder looking for visibility in the tech world, or visibility as an entrepreneur we had Lu Li come and speak about how she is changing the face of entrepreneurship.
Blooming Founders is a company that supports female entrepreneurship and works to get more women into startups. Lu has worked with over 2000 enterprising women and has created a business social network for women in the start-up ecosystem.
Angela Bradbury the CEO of Chime:
Coming from the client side of expert networks and also working in a tech startup with a platform model, Angela developed an idea for using tech to deliver a more efficient service.
Chime provides access to knowledge via expert consultations and she shared her experience of setting up a business from scratch, the problems she faced and tips for those who wish to start a business in future.
